Yamas Industrial

Yamas was founded in 1996 and has since specialized in the production of components for automated machining systems.

The new Yamas industrial building was completed in 2022, and the company has been operating from its new production facility ever since.

This project made us acutely aware of the complex and fascinating systems that industrial production facilities represent: enormous, highly sophisticated machines that manufacture other machines with impressive precision. This experience also influenced our own design approach, which focused intensively on the concept of “systems”—particularly runtime processes and network structures within parallel architectural systems. The design process yielded numerous unexpected and exciting solutions, for which we are especially grateful to the YAMAS team and for the close collaboration during the planning phase.

The load-bearing structure was designed as a system of prefabricated reinforced concrete elements—chosen for their efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and accelerated construction time.

A key element of the architectural concept is the double-layered facade solution: The inner shell consists of glass curtain walls and operable windows, providing ample natural light. This is complemented by an outer layer of perforated aluminum panels, which acts as a second skin. This double facade regulates the incidence of daylight and functions as a passive climate control element, compensating for temperature and light-related changes throughout the day and year – a crucial contribution, both functionally and aesthetically, to the building’s sustainability and identity.
